Honokiol has obvious and lasting central muscle relaxation, central nerve inhibition, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, anti ulcer, anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, inhibition of morphine withdrawal reaction, inhibition of platelet aggregation and other pharmacological effects. Honokiol is used in the treatment of acute enteritis, bacterial or amebic dysentery, chronic gastritis and so on. Among them, honokiol has significant antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, acid resistant bacteria and filamentous fungi, more significant antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, and the strongest inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus.
